Suitable for children and adult beginners with excellent reviews from Music Teacher Magazine, European String Teachers’ Association, and teachers and players from New York, California, France, Australia, Japan and Switzerland.

Together with period repertoire, popular tunes and technical exercises for the bow and left hand, these books contain a collection of original pieces for solo viol and keyboard,
composed by Paul Sudlow.  Each piece has a style, a mood or a story to tell, so that from the first step the student is engaged both imaginatively and expressively with the music. Additionally, consort music that links directly to the progress made by the student throughout the book can be found at the end of each chapter.

  1. Konstanze-Marié Ahlers – Germany (Viol teacher)

I have only recently discovered the Viol Tutors by Jacqui Robertson-Wade.
This was a great blessing to have for my beginner students in the pandemic time, where we could only continue teaching via the internet. There was no opportunity to play together.
The musical examples have play-along recordings on a CD, which the student can use to practise at home. Playing with the accompaniment gives the student a feeling of really making music, and inspires to do regular practising. The CDs are available in both 440Hz and 415Hz tuning.
The Viol Tutors are enjoyed by children as well as adult beginners. They are well structured, and built up in a logical and systematic way. This is the very first time that I have found a Tutor that I can work through with my students, without finding anything too difficult, unfitting or uninteresting along the line, making it impossible to continue through without having to use other material to fill up.
The Viol Tutors are just perfect. The accompaniments are brilliant. The composer manages to make beautiful arrangements, magically creating an accompaniment for the very easy pieces for beginners using only 2 open strings. The student is reminded of technical stumbling blocks accompanied by lovely drawings which makes a happy experience to play from the book.
    Thank you, Jacqui!
